Absolutely dreadful experience at the supermarket. I was at the self-service checkout paying for my items, and two Tesco employees were just standing there without any customer service or even making eye contact. After I paid for my clothes, I asked one of the employees to remove the security tag, only to have both of them ask for my receipt. It was quite shocking to have them watch me pay with my card without offering any assistance. Definitely not the service one would expect.

I was ambushed in the bread section by a bloke sporting a smoking jacket, trainers, and trackies, clutching a bag of pears. Top experience, would definitely revisit.

I have not had any issues with this store until today. My partner and I are regular customers here and we often purchase alcohol without any problems.
Today, we went to the self-checkout with two bottles of spirits. I was the one making the purchase and had my ID ready for verification. My ID was checked, but then the staff member asked for my partner's ID, which he had not brought. Despite me having the appropriate ID and being the one buying, the sale was refused because my partner couldn't provide his ID. This had never been an issue in the past, so we were surprised by the refusal.
I tried to go back to the checkout without my partner, but before I could even reach it, a Tesco staff member approached me. He asked if I had been denied the sale, to which I answered honestly. I showed him my ID, but I was told that it didn't matter and I still couldn't purchase the spirits.
I understand the importance of regulations regarding alcohol sales, but the inconsistent application of these rules is disappointing. We have bought alcohol before with only one of us showing ID without any issues.
In the end, I had to put the spirits back on the shelf and go elsewhere to buy them (where I had no trouble).
It's confusing and disappointing to be denied the sale when attempting to make the purchase for the second time on my own, yet potentially being able to leave the store and return later without any problems.

Absolutely! I couldn't agree more with you on that. Supermarkets really are the best place to find all your favorite groceries and everyday essentials. I always enjoy strolling through the aisles, discovering new products and great deals. It's truly a one-stop shop for everything you need.
Linda Kim (29/08/2025, 07:03):
I've never seen more than 8 customers in the store at once since it opened.

Tesco's potatoes are absolutely dreadful - by the time you've painstakingly peeled away all those unsightly black spots, there's hardly anything left worth salvaging! 🙄
Steven Lee (26/08/2025, 03:18):
The staff are so friendly, the place is spotless and tidy, and there is ample free parking with no time limit. It's a delightful spot, for sure.

Absolutely no customer service to speak of, we were passed around from one person to another. Last Saturday, 18th July, my husband was browsing mobile phones at 10:55 am. There were no other customers in sight when a male, who I assume was a member of the Tesco Mobile staff, came out of a side room (I believe it was a storeroom) and told my husband, "You shouldn't be looking in here." Even the young female staff member looked shocked! The department was open for business, no one else was shopping, and social distancing protocols were being followed. My husband, Stephen, was taken aback and responded, "Fine, I won't be back!" No manager returned our phone call, so it's clear that Tesco couldn't care less about their customers!

The Tesco store renovations are top-notch, I must say. However, I do find myself a bit flummoxed when trying to navigate through the store. Even when it's not jam-packed with shoppers, it still feels a tad cramped. That being said, the selection of items is absolutely splendid – can't fault them on that!

I'm getting quite fed up with this store. This has happened a few times now. Last time, I was buying alcohol as Christmas presents. When I reached the checkout, they asked for my ID, which I had. Then, the woman asked for my sister's ID. I questioned why she needed it when I was the one making the purchase and had my ID in hand. The woman was rather rude about it but eventually relented.
Tonight, I was back with my sister to pick up a few things and a birthday gift. Once again at the checkout, I was asked for ID (which I had ready to show) and then my sister was also asked. I inquired why she needed my sister's ID when I was the one buying the items. I explained that my sister is 15 years old, but she insisted that we looked similar in age and that she couldn't sell me the items as she could get in trouble. My sister appears her age, while I look older. It's unfair to assume that I was purchasing the items for her.
Ultimately, it's their loss. I actually found the items cheaper in another shop. What's the difference between someone who clearly looks over 25 and wouldn't be asked for ID compared to me? I've been in that shop numerous times with my mum in the past, and when she was buying alcohol, I was never asked for ID. It's truly ridiculous.

Fairly quiet, a lovely spot to unwind and do some shopping afterwards.
Susan Evans (19/08/2025, 08:27):
The carpark in this Supermarket is massive, with plenty of room for everyone, and they even have recycling bins for glass and clothes. The staff inside the store are incredibly friendly and helpful. Plus, their availability is top-notch—I was able to find everything I needed even after 8pm at night. I'd definitely give this store a thumbs up.

I've noticed that the Bathgate store is pushing customers to use self-checkouts, which many of us, including myself, don't really like. Personally, I prefer interacting with a cashier when I'm checking out my groceries. If I wanted to scan my own items, I would get a job as a cashier and get paid for it. This has been going on for the past three weeks, causing long lines at the three manned tills. All I can say to the store manager is that if they want to enforce this on us, they better get ready to lose customers. I used to spend at least £100 a week there, but now I've started shopping at Aldi instead. 😎
John Kim (17/08/2025, 22:56):
What a lovely large supermarket! We were able to find everything on our shopping list without any hassle.

I pop into Tesco every now and then for a bit of shopping. Can't really complain! The folks in the phone department were quite helpful and friendly. Cheers!

Brilliant spot for a bit of shopping. The staff are ever so helpful if you're in need of anything.
Adam Edwards (13/08/2025, 18:34):
Superb supermarket, convenient parking, and staff that are friendly and helpful.
Carl Cook (12/08/2025, 18:50):
The checkout staff are quite friendly and cheery, as are the folks over at the meat and pizza counters. Some of them are chatty at the register, which always brightens up your day. (Especially the young school girls, I must say) - it's really refreshing.
There's a wide variety of food and household items, and I think the prices are reasonable.
Olivia Watson (10/08/2025, 22:50):
Dreadful experience, inadequate tills open, endless queues, unhelpful staff, lack of WiFi, no organization, overall a subpar shopping ordeal.
