Exploring Tesco Superstore: Your Local Edinburgh Grocery Destination

Tesco Superstore, located conveniently in Edinburgh, is a popular choice for both locals and visitors looking for a comprehensive shopping experience. With its diverse range of offerings, it caters to various customer needs from groceries to on-site services.

In-Store Shopping Experience

Many customers have shared their experiences, highlighting both the pros and cons of shopping at this location. While the in-store shopping atmosphere can be vibrant, it's not without its challenges. Frequent complaints about empty shelves and stock issues have been noted. One shopper remarked, "I have been shopping here since May 2017... whenever I push my trolley around the store, the gaps in the product range on the shelves are noticeable." Despite these setbacks, Tesco Superstore boasts great produce, a variety of food options, and essential items ranging from fresh fruits to household goods. Notably, customers appreciate the availability of NFC mobile payments and credit cards, making transactions quick and efficient.

Accessibility and Services

Accessibility features are a significant aspect of Tesco Superstore. It provides a wheelchair-accessible entrance, seating, and ample parking facilities including a free parking lot and a dedicated wheelchair-accessible car park. The store is also equipped with an on-site pharmacy, ensuring that customers can fulfill various needs in one stop. Moreover, the supermarket is recognized as a transgender safe space and LGBTQ+ friendly, creating an inclusive environment for all shoppers.

Highlighting Customer Feedback

Customer feedback has been mixed regarding the overall service. Many appreciate the friendly staff, stating, "Super friendly staff and the shop is always well stocked." However, several reviews pointed out issues such as long waits at checkout and poor handling of customer inquiries. A visitor mentioned feeling "mortified" after finding a foreign object in their purchase, expressing dissatisfaction with the response from customer service. Customers have noted the convenience of the click and collect option, alongside in-store pick-up services which cater to those who prefer a quick visit. One patron remarked, “I only went to this store because I had a Click and Collect to pick up. The staff are very friendly and helpful.”

Other Amenities

In addition to groceries, Tesco Superstore houses various on-site services including a Costa Coffee shop and Timpson for dry cleaning and shoe repairs. This adds a layer of convenience for those looking to accomplish multiple errands in one trip. Moreover, sustainability efforts such as recycling initiatives and the option to bring your own plastic bags are commendable. Customers frequently appreciate these efforts, especially in today’s environmentally conscious shopping landscape.

Final Thoughts

Overall, while Tesco Superstore in Edinburgh may face some operational hurdles, it remains a vital shopping hub offering a wide range of products and services. Its commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, combined with various payment options and convenient amenities, solidifies its place as a go-to destination for residents and visitors alike. I've been frequenting Supermarket for the past 7 years, and I must say that I have never encountered impolite or unhelpful staff. Of course, I always make it a point to approach them with politeness and sanity. Additionally, the store offers a great selection of fresh produce and groceries at very reasonable prices.

I must say, Tesco offers a splendid array of fresh produce. The vegetables and other items appear to be of superior quality compared to the Tesco Leith superstore. It brings to mind a quote from Animal Farm - it appears that some Tescos are indeed 'more equal than others'.

Good ... no one on the tills until 9:30 am though

Plenty o' goods, staff that's as useful as a pocket on a shirt, and spotless digs. Good bit o' parkin' too.

I recently had an experience at the Tesco Broughton Road store that I felt compelled to share. My wife and I are regular shoppers at this location, having frequented it almost weekly since 2016 when we moved to the area. As we were leaving the store on our most recent visit, the alarm went off and we were approached by an employee who requested to check our shopping and receipt.

Typically, we decline the receipt at the till for ecological reasons, but this time we were given one. The receipt was extensive, and the employee seemed hesitant to inspect all of our items, some of which were in a Waitrose bag and others in our shopping trolley (we walk to the store from home as it's nearby). Instead, he began questioning us about what we had purchased that could have triggered the alarm.

After some uncomfortable moments, we identified the culprit: 2 Cod Loins. The packaging indicated they were "Security protected," a detail we had not noticed when selecting them. Unlike other security-protected items, like some bottles of wine, there was no way to deactivate this security measure at the till, leading to the inevitable alarm. The cashier did not inform us of this, leaving us unprepared to prevent the alarm from sounding, such as by keeping the item on top of the trolley. This flaw in the system is evident, and I trust I need not elaborate on its shortcomings.

I want to underscore that the employee who assisted us was polite, and our issue is not with him. However, I do take issue with being treated as a potential criminal, a situation that typically drives me to cease shopping at a particular store. In the past, we attempted scanning our items as we shopped, only to encounter a similarly unpleasant experience with an employee meticulously checking each item we had scanned. This left a sour taste that still lingers. Conversely, when we shop at Waitrose in Comely Bank, where we scan as we shop, we have never encountered such problems. Perhaps there are lessons to be learned in customer treatment from them.

I am feeling quite miffed that I cannot make contact with the store regarding a pressing personal issue. I visited on the 25th or 26th and have this niggling feeling that I might have misplaced my Credit Card whilst there. Currently, I find myself all the way up in Linlithgow with no means to pop back to the store in person. I am rather keen to track down this errant card, or perhaps two cards. How might I go about seeking assistance in this regard? +61416138381 H Murphy.

The selection of food is decent, but it can be frustrating when they introduce something new that I like, only to stop selling it after a few weeks. The staff, however, are all lovely and welcoming.

Edit: Lately, the store's stock levels have been quite low. They've also installed EV charging points in the underground parking area.
Doris Carter (13/07/2025, 01:44):
Top-notch grocery shopping in the heart of Edinburgh city center. However, I must say that labeling it as "super" may be a tad exaggerated! They do offer a decent variety of products, with prices that fall within the usual range for Tesco (though slightly on the pricier side), and an abundance of parking space available!
Ruth Harris (11/07/2025, 21:59):
My top supermarket in Edinburgh. It's a massive store with a wide range of products. Don't forget your Tesco Clubcard for discounts!
Jean Graham (10/07/2025, 13:19):
This supermarket in Edinburgh could arguably be classed as one of the biggest in the city center. It boasts an impressive range of products, a spacious car park, and stays open until late hours. Additionally, you can find a Costa coffee and Timpsons for dry cleaning and key cutting services on-site.
Louis Ortiz (04/07/2025, 07:47):
It's a quaint little supermarket. They usually stock everything I need, although it doesn't quite compare to the Waitrose in Stockbridge or a massive Tesco out of town.

Nevertheless, its prime location next to the bike path makes it incredibly convenient for those without a vehicle.
Melissa Bailey (03/07/2025, 19:15):
The staff is top-notch, incredibly friendly and helpful. They offer decent discounts on high-end items, although they could have more in general. Definitely deserving of a 5-star rating.
Betty Thompson (02/07/2025, 23:19):
A quaint Tesco located in the heart of town that always sees a steady flow of customers (yet the checkout lines are efficiently managed and never pose an issue). Impressive variety of products considering the compact size of the store.
Judith Perry (30/06/2025, 20:37):
They've got some brilliant bits for vegans, such as non-dairy cheese and ice cream.
Wayne Nelson (30/06/2025, 16:17):
At Tesco, you can find everything under one roof. While the prices may not always be the cheapest compared to other stores, the quality is superior.
Joe Nguyen (29/06/2025, 18:23):
This massive supermarket offers a plethora of conveniences such as a cozy coffee corner, efficient dry cleaning services, and a fully stocked pharmacy. Impressive variety of vegetarian options available as well.
Susan Brown (27/06/2025, 16:04):
She was speaking poorly to us.
Steven Patterson (23/06/2025, 22:03):
I've been coming here since 1994 when it changed from WM Lows. The staff is just lovely and over the years, I've really got to know them well. If they don't have what you want, they'll do their best to get it for you or point you in the right direction. It's shopping locally with local folks. That sense of being part of a community that embraces everyone, no matter their situation, truly sets it apart - a local shop for local residents. What more could any of us wish for?
Layla Sullivan (18/06/2025, 13:22):
A fine establishment, with a staff that is quite pleasant and the aisles are always tidy. Any minor hiccups are swiftly taken care of without hassle. Occasionally, there may be a shortage of items on the shelves, but one can usually find suitable substitutes so no room for grumbling.
Susan Powell (17/06/2025, 11:24):
The team here is absolutely brilliant, always so cheerful and ready to lend a hand. This little gem is my go-to spot, and it truly stocks everything imaginable... they even have Christmas trees!
