Doctor Burnbrae Medical Practice: Accessibility and Patient Experience

The Doctor Burnbrae Medical Practice located in Shotts offers various amenities aimed at providing an accessible environment for all patients. Understanding the challenges faced during the current NHS crisis, this practice strives to deliver a reliable healthcare experience.

Accessibility Features

One of the standout features of the practice is its commitment to accessibility. The facility includes:

  • A wheelchair-accessible entrance to ensure all patients can enter with ease.
  • A wheelchair-accessible car park, making it convenient for those who drive to the practice.
  • A wheelchair-accessible toilet that provides necessary facilities for patients needing assistance.

Appointment Planning

To enhance patient care, it is recommended to plan appointments in advance. Many patients have found that the online app for booking appointments and requesting repeat prescriptions is highly effective. This digital method reduces waiting times and simplifies the process. However, some reviews indicate challenges in accessing timely responses from staff.

Amenities and Services

The practice has implemented advanced systems, including a 24-hour prescription collection service via a 'hole in the wall' dispenser. This allows patients to avoid lengthy waits at pharmacies, a feature praised by users seeking convenience.

Patient Feedback

Experiences at the practice vary significantly among patients:

While many commend the dedication of the staff, describing them as friendly and supportive, others express frustration over the perceived difficulty in securing face-to-face consultations. One patient noted, “You NEVER get to see a doctor, it's all done via the internet and email.”

Despite these contrasting opinions, there are reports of positive interactions, exemplifying the dedication of certain staff members. Comments like, “I think this practice is excellent” reflect a segment of the patient population that appreciates the support provided during tough times.

Conclusion

In summary, Doctor Burnbrae Medical Practice stands as a crucial healthcare provider in Shotts, prioritizing accessibility and innovative solutions for patients. While challenges persist, particularly regarding patient communication and appointment availability, the practice aims to support those in need during these challenging times.

It's absolutely maddening, innit? My mum, who's a sprightly 87 years young, has been havin' ongoing issues for the past 12 weeks, and can ya believe it, she can't even snag a face to face appointment! They're still bangin' on about askin' our GP for advice like they can't be arsed to pick up the blower and 'ave a proper chat with her. And get this, sometimes they just sling a prescription her way without even layin' eyes on 'er! How in the world can they know what's wrong if they haven't even bothered to give 'er a once-over?! It's enough to make ya spittin' mad!

I recently had a distressing experience at the doctor's office with my 17-month-old daughter. I had tried to schedule an online appointment, but they were only doing paperwork that week and not seeing patients. My daughter was very unwell - she had a high temperature, was refusing to eat, and had been vomiting. I tried to explain the situation to the receptionist while also noticing the doctor in the background. Despite my concerns, all I was told was to go to the emergency room if I was that worried. I contacted the NHS helpline, who advised that as it was within the doctor's working hours, it was their responsibility to assess my daughter. Frustrated by the lack of help, I switched to a different doctor that same day and found out that my daughter had a severe viral infection.

Dr. Arnott and her team have really modernized the practice, bringing it into the 21st century. The service is top-notch, well done!

Folks need to get a grip, these professionals are doing their best in challenging times, with hospitals experiencing up to a 10-hour wait. It would be more beneficial if the complainers and experts established their own practice.
Shirley Roberts (08/07/2025, 12:16):
This establishment goes out of its way to avoid you from visiting a physician, always redirects you and encourages you to consult a nurse instead. On the one occasion I insisted and finally secured an appointment with a doctor, the doctor called in sick... I've almost surrendered attempting to receive any healthcare in Shotts now... Edit: I've had to lower my rating even more, no reply to requests for health assistance after testing positive for COVID.
Charlotte Evans (29/06/2025, 18:59):
Even though the practice has grown in size, the staff always treat you with respect and provide support services effortlessly. The GP is simply fantastic.
Barbara Price (28/06/2025, 10:52):
This health centre was much superior before Burnbrae acquired it. I would not suggest it to anyone!!!
Harper Evans (24/06/2025, 10:42):
I've had a good twenty years with a GP practice in Edinburgh City centre, which I must say was rather mediocre. However, the Burnbrae practice is on a whole other level - they fully embrace cutting-edge technology, their systems are top-notch, and the staff are incredibly helpful. I can't envision a superior facility. It's truly first-rate!

Perhaps the practice manager at Burnbrae could pay a visit to my former practice and give them a crash course on what the internet is and how to make the most of it.
Amelia Turner (17/06/2025, 14:22):
Absolutely ridiculous! It's been a fortnight now and I'm still waiting for a response from my invisible physician on AskMyDoc.
Amy Hughes (10/06/2025, 20:59):
I must say, the experience of not being able to physically see a doctor can be quite frustrating. Relying solely on internet and email consultations can lead to long waiting times for a response, as in my case where I've waited over 10 days to hear back from my GP through ask my GP. This is simply not satisfactory.
Amanda Graham (10/06/2025, 01:12):
If I could, I would rate them 0 stars - one of the most terrible GP practices imaginable. The doctor seems disinterested in seeing patients unless they are on their deathbed, and the receptionists spend their time gossiping and being rude. I strongly advise against visiting this place. In retrospect, I'd prefer waiting 6 hours in A&E rather than 6 days here before things escalate. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!
