Exploring Tesco Extra in Galashiels: A Comprehensive Overview

When it comes to grocery shopping, Tesco Extra in Galashiels is often at the forefront of locals' minds. With a vast selection of products and great produce, this supermarket caters to a diverse crowd, making it a popular destination for quick visits. Let’s delve into what makes this store unique and the various offerings available to shoppers.

Accessibility and Amenities

One of the highlights of Tesco Extra is its commitment to accessibility. The store features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a dedicated wheelchair-accessible car park. Additionally, the availability of a wheelchair-accessible toilet ensures that all customers can shop comfortably.

In-store amenities include a pharmacy and options for in-store shopping as well as in-store pick-up services. For those who prefer modern payment methods, Tesco supports NFC mobile payments and accepts both credit cards and debit cards.

Food Choices and Price Considerations

Shoppers at Tesco Extra will find a wide array of food items from fresh produce to household necessities. However, some customers have reported inconsistency in stock levels, particularly with staples like bananas and lettuce. While many appreciate the clubcard discounts available, others have expressed frustration at times when discounts were not honored, leading them to consider alternatives like Aldis.

The grocery section generally boasts great variety, but it's always wise to check prices on shelves, as discrepancies can occur at checkout. Shoppers should remain vigilant about pricing, as some have noted a lack of clarity on certain offers, such as two-for-one deals that aren't accurately reflected at the register.

Customer Service Experiences

Customer sentiments regarding the service provided can be mixed. Many appreciate the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to assist, while others have voiced concerns about unhelpful or rude interactions. It's crucial for the management team to prioritize staff training to enhance customer experiences consistently.

Some visitors have described feeling a sense of dread upon entering due to past negative experiences with staff, indicating that a more welcoming atmosphere is necessary. Feedback highlights the need for employees to maintain professionalism, especially during busy hours when tensions can rise.

Environmental Initiatives

Regarding sustainability, Tesco has taken steps toward recycling by encouraging customers to bring their own plastic bags or opt for paper alternatives. This initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and promote environmentally-friendly practices among shoppers.

Conclusion: A Space for Community Engagement

Despite certain challenges, Tesco Extra in Galashiels remains a vital part of the community. It serves as a hub for local events and contributes to community initiatives, ensuring that it keeps a connection with its customers. The store prides itself on being LGBTQ+ friendly, fostering an inclusive environment.

With ample amenities, diverse offerings, and a commitment to accessibility, Tesco Extra continues to be a popular choice for many residents in Galashiels. While there are areas for improvement, particularly in customer service and stock consistency, the overall experience can still be rewarding with a little planning.

Today, on the 16th of June 2015, I popped into Tesco's in Galashiels, just like any other day. I handed in my prescription at the pharmacy and knowing it would take about 10 to 15 minutes to be processed, I decided to grab a bite to eat at the Restaurant. Everything seemed fine and dandy.

I stood in line behind a couple and the "gentleman" (later found out he was the manager) who was busy preparing a meal for the previous customer paid me no attention. An elderly lady asked if she could go ahead of me to buy a drink, and I agreed. The girl handling the drinks and the register mentioned she would assist me in a few minutes. In the meantime, the manager served the prepared meal to the customer and then moved on to help the elderly lady. This caused a delay at the register that lasted about five minutes.

In the midst of this, another "gentleman" simply cut in front of me in the line without a word. Still, I remained silent. It wasn't until the manager started serving the second gentleman that I finally spoke up, saying, "Excuse me, but I was next in line to be served." The manager then accused me of being rude and muttered something under his breath, though I couldn't quite catch it.

At that moment, I decided to leave the restaurant and went to collect my prescription. By then, I was quite upset. So, I thought I should complain to the store manager. However, I was directed back upstairs where I had to voice my complaint to the Restaurant Manager, and in front of everyone too.

What appalled me the most was the fact that I couldn't make my complaint in private as I had requested, the outright denial by the restaurant manager regarding his muttering under his breath, and his complete refusal to find a middle ground with me.

It goes without saying that I will never be dining at TESCO'S restaurants again.

The staff are always lovely and work really hard. There's a great variety of food and drink available here. I would definitely recommend it.

I've never experienced such rudeness in a Tesco before. The staff lack awareness of personal space, as I've been struck by trolleys and pushed aside on multiple occasions. During my most recent visit, in the early morning while staff were preparing online orders, I patiently waited for a lady to retrieve an item from the rice section. As soon as she moved, I tried to grab a bag but was obstructed by another staff member pushing a trolley. I had to maneuver through a tight space to leave, and as I walked away, the staff member muttered, "I don't understand why you're so upset." When I confronted him, he quickly turned red and attempted to call over another staff member to divert attention. As I went to different aisles, the same man followed me, intentionally cutting me off with his trolley. I tried to see his name, but he covered his name tag; a bold man standing about 6ft 2in. Every time I have to visit this store, it fills me with anxiety, wondering what kind of treatment I will receive from the staff. It always feels like I'm inconveniencing them by being there. This seems to be a common sentiment about this store, as many others I've spoken to have also been pushed aside by trolleys.

Affordable and stocked with everything I need, this supermarket never disappoints!
Ethan Wilson (04/09/2025, 17:04):
So, I was at the loo with my mates, and this lady who cleans the loos barged in and told us to bugger off or she'd fetch security. We hadn't even done anything wrong, just popped in for a quick pit stop. It's really disheartening to be treated like that just because we're teens. Being young doesn't automatically mean we're up to no good.
Alexander Hernandez (01/09/2025, 15:47):
Excellent service at the phone store. Extremely well organized, with friendly and professional guidance. Thanks to them, I now receive my work emails directly on my smartphone.
Nicholas Hernandez (01/09/2025, 04:33):
Excellent spot for a spot of shopping, well-stocked indeed!
Kevin Flores (29/08/2025, 15:20):
The vibe was spot on, could've been a tad busier but the tunes were decent. The veggie aisle was looking absolutely fresh!
Shirley Hamilton (28/08/2025, 01:14):
No worries, with a great team in place.
Samantha Gomez (26/08/2025, 00:51):
Lovely store, great selection and prices!
Zachary Ramos (25/08/2025, 04:38):
That Tesco was the busiest I've ever laid eyes on, absolutely packed to the rafters it was. The layout was all topsy-turvy, proper strange it was, and don't even get me started on the carpark, right peculiar it was.
Chloe Jenkins (21/08/2025, 02:06):
As an "extra," this supermarket is cozy and has attentive staff.
Heather Clark (20/08/2025, 02:33):
It's quite convenient for shopping and there's easy access to an ATM, but I did find that some of the staff were not very helpful.
Randy Hughes (19/08/2025, 23:24):
Just received a splendid range of goods, from paint to peas, at the supermarket. Great selection indeed!
John Evans (19/08/2025, 06:23):
Everyone is so helpful and friendly here. I always find exactly what I'm looking for!

Top-notch services and great rates, absolutely brilliant!
Martha Kelly (15/08/2025, 07:43):
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and they had an excellent selection of products available.
Denise Ross (15/08/2025, 00:04):
Cafe... what a joke. No cold beverages available for the little ones. The staff seemed unaware of dietary restrictions at the checkout. The manageress was quite rude and appeared unable to handle a bustling day. Tables were left uncleared, with the floor littered with food and dirt. The restroom was also unsanitary, with blood present on one toilet seat (which I only noticed after placing my order). The wait for food was ridiculous, despite the place not being overly crowded with spare tables available. I suppose whether I give them another chance will depend on the quality of their offerings.
Philip Coleman (14/08/2025, 19:52):
The prices were absolutely absurd, won't be returning anytime soon, and the checkout I was in moved as slow as molasses. Didn't enjoy my visit one bit, always bustling and everyone rushing around, can't stand that. Sometimes the elderly get flustered by it, not me, but some do. So I'll definitely be avoiding Tesco's whenever possible, I'd rather save my money elsewhere.
Sean Wilson (14/08/2025, 19:34):
The supermarket had all the essentials I needed, and the staff was quite accommodating.
