Exploring Burns Shopping Mall: A Kilmarnock Landmark

Burns Shopping Mall, located in the heart of Kilmarnock, offers a unique shopping experience, though opinions about the mall's condition and offerings vary widely. Here's an overview of what to expect when visiting this shopping center.

On-Site Services

The mall features a variety of on-site services including shops like Argos, Home Bargains, and a pound shop. While some visitors appreciate these options, many have noted the lack of variety due to several vacant units, making for a less vibrant atmosphere.

Accessibility Features

A significant advantage of Burns Shopping Mall is its wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park. The layout allows for easier navigation for those using mobility aids, although some reviews suggest that better signage and maintenance could further enhance accessibility.

Visitor Experiences

Reviews present a mixed bag of experiences at the mall. Some patrons commend the friendly staff and the convenience of having essential services under one roof, such as pharmacies and grocery stores. However, numerous comments express disappointment over the mall's run-down appearance, with descriptions likening it to "war-torn" conditions and highlighting issues like leaking roofs and poor security. One visitor mentioned, “It’s functional as all the shops I need are under one room,” pointing out the practical aspect despite the aesthetic shortcomings.

Concerns About Safety and Cleanliness

Many reviews reflect concerns regarding safety, particularly due to the presence of unruly behavior around the mall. Comments about drug-related activities and encounters with loitering individuals have been prevalent, leading some shoppers to recommend avoiding the area if possible. Regular mention of the scent of urine and cleanliness indicates ongoing maintenance challenges. Nevertheless, some customers appreciate the cleanliness maintained by the staff, who work diligently to keep the shopping environment tidy, even amidst the challenges.

Additional Amenities

While the mall features essential amenities like toilets, some patrons have pointed out that their availability can be inconsistent, which can be a disadvantage for families or those needing regular access. Reviewers have suggested that updates to restroom facilities could enhance the overall experience.

Conclusion: Is Burns Shopping Mall Worth a Visit?

While Burns Shopping Mall offers convenient on-site services and accessibility features, its reputation is marred by issues of safety and aesthetics. It holds potential for improvement through revitalization efforts that could attract more shoppers and fill the vacant units. For those in Kilmarnock, it remains a spot worth visiting for specific needs, particularly on rainy days when its sheltered environment offers a brief escape from the elements. However, cautious visitors should be prepared for the complexities that accompany its current state.

Fantastic stores and restrooms
Philip Moore (12/09/2025, 02:48):
Great variety of shops in this shopping mall, but had a bit of a rough time at the vape store. Ended up dropping £25 on a vape, only to have it conk out on me the next day. Had to shell out another tenner to replace it. Not feeling too hot about the vape shop, but all the other stores are A-OK in my book!
Roy Ortiz (10/09/2025, 05:20):
A good number of the shops were shut, and the place wasn't kept very tidy. I must say I was a tad let down as it was my first time visiting Kilmarnock.
Nicholas Ward (09/09/2025, 11:46):
Wonderful spot to visit if your passion is observing junkies. The taxi stand area outside Gregg's resembles the dance scene from Michael Jackson's Thriller video due to them. However, unlike the zombies in the video, these individuals seem to have more teeth!
Alice Sanders (08/09/2025, 01:50):
Just popped into the shopping mall on Sunday morning. Place was tidy, but not many stores open yet.
Kevin Rodriguez (07/09/2025, 22:36):
Not too shabby! The folks asking for spare change are quite polite in their passive-aggressiveness. The pastry from Greg's is consistently chilled, and you can count on a bunch of rowdy lads loitering around, making unnecessary noise and asking for a cigarette. I'd give it 3 stars.
Peter Ford (03/09/2025, 06:08):
This shopping mall is quite wonderful, not too massive but with a splendid array of shops. The best part is the abundant availability of disabled-friendly facilities, including toilets and easy access for those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Its proximity to the town center and the bus station right next door makes it incredibly convenient for all shoppers.
Evelyn Young (31/08/2025, 23:34):
Chock-full of bargain shops, a prime example of Kilmarnock town center slowly fading away. At least they do a good job of keeping it spick and span.
Charlotte Collins (30/08/2025, 01:34):
A wee shopping mall at Kilmarnock Cross, named after Scotland's beloved poet who had some ties to the town. The mall offers a typical mix of shops in a rather tidy setting, though a bit of a sprucing up wouldn't go amiss. I only popped in to grab a lottery ticket, so if it turns out to be a winner, this place will definitely earn top marks in my book.
Peter Fisher (29/08/2025, 08:56):
This compact covered mall features just a handful of anchor stores such as Argos and Bargain Shop, while the remainder of the mall is filled with eclectic small shops ranging from Farm Foods to the 99p Store. One of the highlights is the convenience of having a bus station and taxi rank located at the top of the mall. It serves primarily as a shopping hub, transportation hub, and meeting spot for locals.
Beverly Ramirez (27/08/2025, 06:42):
I absolutely adore Killie for shopping! It's a pity that there are quite a few closed shops though. I really hope Kilmarnock attracts some new businesses and more retail stores. It's such a shame to see the current situation.
Kimberly Taylor (26/08/2025, 21:55):
This shopping mall ain't too shabby, with a few good shops to browse through. However, it's on the smaller side and most of the better stores can be found on the high street. On the bright side, they do have those fantastic massaging chairs!
Debra Moore (25/08/2025, 11:33):
The shopping mall was being used properly with people wearing masks, but there were too many people gathered at the top of the mall outside the moving doors, shouting, cursing, and smoking.
Janet Phillips (25/08/2025, 10:42):
Not a great spot for a day out, I must say. The selection is quite lacking, and the security guards aren't much help at all. Seems like the place is a free-for-all for the junkies.

However, on the bright side, it's conveniently located with a bus station, town center, taxi rank, and the Palace Theatre all within easy reach.
Patrick Gonzales (25/08/2025, 08:46):
There's a good selection of shops at Burns Mall and it's quite handy to have a public loo available, as they can be scarce in many towns nowadays. Personally, I need to take water pills for a medical condition, so it's crucial for me to consider restroom availability when planning outings. I pretty much always end up using the facilities at Burns Mall whenever I'm in Kilmarnock, so it's a relief that it's there.
Mark Mitchell (25/08/2025, 06:40):
Absolutely splendid! The personnel at my beloved local shopping center are ever so kind and considerate, and the security team is always on hand to offer assistance when needed. Cheers to a top-notch shopping experience!
Noah Kim (25/08/2025, 03:13):
I found myself in Kilmarnock, surrounded by the undead and junkies. The streets were overrun by rowdy Ned children during lunchtime. The pound shops were filled with cheap junk and vaping products. Surprisingly, the music playing was actually quite good.
Donald Hamilton (23/08/2025, 13:35):
Regrettably, this shopping centre ain't what it used to be. The stores are alright and offer a decent range of products. However, the main issue here is the inadequate security measures, especially after dark. There are groups of youngsters wandering around with no real supervision, causing trouble. I must say that not all of them are troublemakers, but there are always a couple who take things too far.
Kelly Kelly (21/08/2025, 05:42):
Ayrshire Junkie Central is the go-to spot for many Kilmarnock junkies and drug dealers looking to conduct their business away from the rain. Security guards and police officers often patrol the area. While the shops inside may be decent, the surrounding area leaves much to be desired.
Sandra Brown (18/08/2025, 16:36):
Absolutely smashing arts and crafts store! The little ones absolutely love popping in all the time.
