Nuchem Pharmacy, located in Edinburgh, is a place where many individuals turn for their pharmaceutical needs. However, it has become apparent that the pharmacy has faced numerous challenges in providing optimal service to its customers.
Payment and Accessibility Options
At Nuchem Pharmacy, payment options include credit cards and debit cards, accommodating various preferences. Moreover, they also support NFC mobile payments for a quick and convenient checkout experience. The pharmacy features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park, making it an inclusive choice for all customers.
Service Options and Planning
While the pharmacy offers multiple service options, including emergency prescriptions, feedback from customers suggests significant delays in prescription fulfillment. Numerous individuals have reported needing to return multiple times before their medications are ready. This inefficiency raises concerns about the pharmacy's planning and overall customer service strategy.
Customer Experiences: The Good and the Bad
Some customers have shared positive experiences, noting the helpfulness of staff even during busy hours. For instance, one individual praised the manager's assistance in obtaining an emergency prescription, highlighting the commitment of some employees to customer care.
Conversely, many have expressed dissatisfaction with the service. Reports indicate that customers often face lengthy wait times, only to be told their prescriptions are not ready. One customer mentioned how frustrating it is to be informed repeatedly to return the next day, which can lead to inconvenience, especially for those in urgent need of medication.
Delivery and Communication Challenges
Delivery services are essential, especially for housebound individuals. However, customers have reported difficulties in contacting the pharmacy by phone, as calls often go unanswered. This lack of communication can exacerbate problems, causing further frustration and anxiety for those awaiting critical medications.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while Nuchem Pharmacy in Edinburgh provides essential services and has a dedicated staff, significant improvements in service efficiency and communication are required. Customers seeking a quick visit may need to consider these factors before choosing Nuchem for their pharmaceutical needs. For those prioritizing accessibility and varied payment options, it still remains a viable choice, but being prepared for potential delays is advisable.

I am a regular visitor to Nuchem and have never encountered any issues with the staff. They are always incredibly friendly. About 80% of the time, I am in and out within a minute or two if I have handed in my prescription beforehand. This shows how well-prepared they are. In my experience, waiting for 20 minutes is usually the longest I have to wait. The staff are extremely helpful, and the pharmacist who is there most days is a naturally kind person with excellent medical knowledge. She goes above and beyond to assist you in any way she can. For instance, once she even arranged an emergency doctor's appointment for me after hearing about my symptoms at 5:30 pm.

Outstanding service, I must say!
Rachel Gray (18/07/2025, 02:30):
I recommend visiting a different pharmacy instead of this one. I have been waiting for over a month and I have gone in four times to pick up my prescription, only to be told to come back the next day, that they couldn't get it, or that they didn't have my prescription, until it miraculously appeared when I mentioned what they had previously said. There is always a huge line down the street. The staff seems to lack knowledge and are potentially putting people in danger. I would suggest steering clear of this place!
Martha Morgan (15/07/2025, 08:53):
I've been a loyal customer at this pharmacy for over a decade, but the service has taken a nosedive in the past year. I've experienced significant delays in receiving my repeat prescriptions, and it's become increasingly difficult to get through to them on the phone. The overall organization within the store is chaotic. The last straw was when they failed to notify me that my long-awaited prescription was ready for collection. As a result, I've switched to a different pharmacy.
Paul Turner (09/07/2025, 17:41):
This pharmacy service has always been a mess, but now it's reached unbelievable levels of incompetence. It's the same chaotic routine every time. I search endlessly through their prescription index, only to find that the surgery had processed it days ago. Then comes the futile hunt through various shelves, followed by the request to return (and wait in another long queue stretching down the street outside the store). Today, in a bid to be first, I arrived at 9:00 am (the supposed opening time according to the website) only to discover a sign stating they wouldn't open until 10:00 am. My order was placed on 3/7/23. I attempted to pick it up on 11/7/23 when I ran out of one item, but it hadn't been prepared and was asked to return at 4:00 pm. I had to delay until today, 15/7/23, and it still wasn't ready. I vow to never subject myself to this ordeal again.
Bobby Adams (07/07/2025, 16:39):
Please take note: the chemist takes their lunch break from 13.00 to 14.00, so prescriptions cannot be processed during this time. It can be quite frustrating if you find yourself in this situation, especially since this information is not readily available on Google's opening hours. Despite the pharmacy being frequently busy, the team is always accommodating and I have never encountered any issues when trying to obtain what I require.
Katherine Nelson (05/07/2025, 14:07):
Mother is eagerly awaiting an emergency prescription for antibiotics and steroids. I have been attempting to contact the pharmacy since Friday morning, but their phone has been continuously busy, even on Saturday and today, Monday. The lack of delivery is concerning as my mother is housebound and urgently needs her medication.
Keith Cruz (05/07/2025, 08:24):
I've ceased utilizing this pharmacy due to repeat prescriptions running out weeks before they are due. The staff's 'can't do attitude' only exacerbates the situation, as customers are treated as if they are an inconvenience rather than valued patrons.
Carl Gonzales (03/07/2025, 09:45):
Every pharmacy I've been to in my entire life has provided better service than what's going on in there. I can't tell if they're understaffed or just terrible at managing their time, but if you need a prescription quickly, this is not the place to go.
Gloria Collins (29/06/2025, 01:17):
I must say, I have a great deal of respect for your front of house staff member who appears to handle a bustling store and a disordered system with admirable grace. It's a bit concerning that she seems to struggle to locate filled prescriptions, but I trust she is compensated fairly for the challenging work she undertakes.
Eric Allen (27/06/2025, 17:22):
I've had some really bad experiences at this pharmacy. More than once, I've been told to come back the next day because the medication isn't available, only to return and be told the same thing again – come back tomorrow. In my last visit, I handed in my prescription and was told to come back the following day as I needed to get to work and couldn't wait 20 minutes. When I returned the next morning, the medication still wasn't ready and they said they would text me to come back later in the afternoon. I explained to the staff how it didn't make sense – I was told the day before that the medication would be ready in 20 minutes, but 24 hours later, I was being asked to return in the afternoon. They really need to work on this as it's always the same issue.
Helen Green (23/06/2025, 14:52):
The shop manager, Heather, was incredibly impolite and unhelpful. It would be beneficial to consider a change in management!
Bruce Butler (23/06/2025, 06:05):
Amazing team. They sorted me out with exactly what I was looking for.
Nicole Powell (19/06/2025, 06:24):
This pharmacy used to be quite efficient, but now it's just terrible. It takes at least 2 weeks to process a repeat prescription, and sometimes it doesn't even happen at all. The staff are unhelpful when you inquire about your order, and their phone is constantly busy so you can't place your repeats. I will not be using them anymore. Dreadful service.
Hannah Edwards (18/06/2025, 11:50):
The staff at this pharmacy are absolutely smashing, I must say! Their patience and efficiency in dealing with a mob of impatient folks and complaints is simply top-notch. I have the highest regard for this establishment, I really do.
Joshua Reed (15/06/2025, 17:52):
I stood for 35 minutes on Saturday and continued to wait in a lengthy queue due to understaffing.
Christopher Jones (14/06/2025, 15:36):
Always extremely helpful and willing to go above and beyond for their customers. These champions are tirelessly working through the challenges of Covid-19 to ensure our local community has access to essential medications, all while providing invaluable advice. Much appreciated.
Janice Wilson (13/06/2025, 04:49):
I've just switched to this pharmacy because I had some problems with my previous one. The service here is top-notch, even though they are always busy! They are very patient in answering all my questions and providing options for my repeat prescriptions.
Diane Lee (09/06/2025, 17:51):
They are quite organized, friendly, and helpful.
Cynthia Ortiz (09/06/2025, 03:24):
I recently relocated from Sainsbury's to this pharmacy, and it has been quite a disappointing experience. Waiting for weeks to receive a prescription, only to find out it's not available, has become frustratingly common. On one occasion, my wife was wrongly accused of already collecting her prescription because they couldn't locate it. They promised to call back promptly, but we're still waiting. Another time, after picking up the prescription, we discovered an item missing. Upon contacting them, they simply apologized and mentioned that they may have mentioned it during the collection, which was not the case. The staff members are pleasant, but the overall operation of the pharmacy seems disorganized and chaotic.
