Exploring Tesco Extra in Galashiels: A Comprehensive Overview

When it comes to grocery shopping, Tesco Extra in Galashiels is often at the forefront of locals' minds. With a vast selection of products and great produce, this supermarket caters to a diverse crowd, making it a popular destination for quick visits. Let’s delve into what makes this store unique and the various offerings available to shoppers.

Accessibility and Amenities

One of the highlights of Tesco Extra is its commitment to accessibility. The store features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a dedicated wheelchair-accessible car park. Additionally, the availability of a wheelchair-accessible toilet ensures that all customers can shop comfortably.

In-store amenities include a pharmacy and options for in-store shopping as well as in-store pick-up services. For those who prefer modern payment methods, Tesco supports NFC mobile payments and accepts both credit cards and debit cards.

Food Choices and Price Considerations

Shoppers at Tesco Extra will find a wide array of food items from fresh produce to household necessities. However, some customers have reported inconsistency in stock levels, particularly with staples like bananas and lettuce. While many appreciate the clubcard discounts available, others have expressed frustration at times when discounts were not honored, leading them to consider alternatives like Aldis.

The grocery section generally boasts great variety, but it's always wise to check prices on shelves, as discrepancies can occur at checkout. Shoppers should remain vigilant about pricing, as some have noted a lack of clarity on certain offers, such as two-for-one deals that aren't accurately reflected at the register.

Customer Service Experiences

Customer sentiments regarding the service provided can be mixed. Many appreciate the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to assist, while others have voiced concerns about unhelpful or rude interactions. It's crucial for the management team to prioritize staff training to enhance customer experiences consistently.

Some visitors have described feeling a sense of dread upon entering due to past negative experiences with staff, indicating that a more welcoming atmosphere is necessary. Feedback highlights the need for employees to maintain professionalism, especially during busy hours when tensions can rise.

Environmental Initiatives

Regarding sustainability, Tesco has taken steps toward recycling by encouraging customers to bring their own plastic bags or opt for paper alternatives. This initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and promote environmentally-friendly practices among shoppers.

Conclusion: A Space for Community Engagement

Despite certain challenges, Tesco Extra in Galashiels remains a vital part of the community. It serves as a hub for local events and contributes to community initiatives, ensuring that it keeps a connection with its customers. The store prides itself on being LGBTQ+ friendly, fostering an inclusive environment.

With ample amenities, diverse offerings, and a commitment to accessibility, Tesco Extra continues to be a popular choice for many residents in Galashiels. While there are areas for improvement, particularly in customer service and stock consistency, the overall experience can still be rewarding with a little planning.

James Parker (11/08/2025, 23:17):
I recently had a disappointing experience at the supermarket. The prices displayed on the shelves did not match the prices I was charged at the till. For example, there was an offer on Dates and Nuts, two for £5.00. However, when I checked my receipt later, I found that I had been overcharged - they had charged me £5.00 for the nuts and £3.00 for the dates.

When I contacted the Tesco store about this issue, I was informed that the labels had mysteriously disappeared from the shelves, making it impossible to verify the offer. This lack of transparency is quite concerning. Additionally, I witnessed another customer struggling to find prices in the chocolate aisle, where there were piles of chocolates on display but no prices listed.

Overall, I was disappointed by the poor pricing practices and lack of attention to detail at this store. It's clear that they could improve their service by ensuring that goods are accurately priced and labeled.

Picked up everything we required, not too crowded.
Brittany Turner (10/08/2025, 09:08):
Oh, mate! The Breaking Bad movie I've been hunting for yonks finally came out today. Absolutely proper stuff, mate. Top-notch doner, I must say.
Roger Reed (10/08/2025, 00:32):
I must say, the store manager was rather rude and intimidating. Accusing us, who were just minding our business and shopping carefully, of engaging in "improper shopping" was quite uncalled for. Their unprofessional behavior, coupled with my anxiety, really put a damper on what was shaping up to be a good day. Needless to say, I won't be returning to that store anytime soon, nor will I be recommending it to friends or family.

Had a bit of a hectic time at the store today, managed to snag everything I needed including those KFC flavored chips I've been craving. However, it seems like people have completely forgotten about social distancing and basic manners. There was this child whose parents seemed oblivious to her antics - she kept leaning on the scales while I was trying to check out, and they ignored me when I politely asked them to intervene. To top it off, even after they left, the machine started malfunctioning, which was quite frustrating.

I also came across two different types of cooler boxes, but when I inquired about them, nobody seemed to have a clear idea of how they worked. It was disappointing, especially considering that their own brand is priced at £60, and the Coke version at £95. You'd think someone would have a clue, right? Attached some photos below, not exactly impressed with the whole experience.

Fabulous for shopping online as well as in-store shopping.
Beverly Moore (03/08/2025, 02:00):
I've just returned from the most dreadful Tesco shopping experience. Imagine my surprise when I encountered two staff members belting out tunes at full volume in the wine aisle, complete with some colorful language. Initially, I mistook them for inebriated customers. Despite their masks, their conduct was neither suitable nor safe. Grocery shopping is challenging enough without having to deal with such unprofessional behavior from the personnel.
Kathleen Clark (02/08/2025, 03:26):
Decent Tesco, quite large with a decent selection. The café staff are absolutely lovely, they let me work undisturbed for ages which I really appreciate. It might sound silly, but the only downside is the absence of a petrol station to rival Asda.
Ashley Gonzalez (01/08/2025, 09:34):
I was able to find everything I needed at the supermarket. The employees were courteous and very helpful throughout my visit.
Russell Reynolds (30/07/2025, 06:11):

Louis Wilson (28/07/2025, 10:43):
Love visiting this Supermarket, the staff are so friendly and always willing to help. The store is consistently well-stocked and immaculately clean. Great experience every time!
Brittany Cook (24/07/2025, 03:00):
The staff at this Supermarket are very helpful, and the products are of great quality. They even price match Aldi, just like Tesco does.
Amelia Morales (20/07/2025, 16:21):
The store closing at midnight is a laugh. The cigarette counter shuts down at 8pm or even earlier. I was the lone ranger at the self-service checkouts, scanning away when suddenly a staff member hands me back my card. A simple "your card is there" would've sufficed, no need to touch it with your filthy mitts!! If the machines were quicker, I could've reclaimed my card before bagging my items. There wasn't any hand gel on the way out to sanitize or wash my card, and forget about the 2-meter rule - it's a myth in that store.
George Sanders (15/07/2025, 06:14):
A store with some decent SIM card offers.
Ava Johnson (13/07/2025, 23:07):
My wife Olivia and I absolutely adore Tesco. It's the greatest supermarket in existence, mate. Always running out of milk, it's a proper struggle, innit? But I ain't gonna let that get me down. Every time I spot a Tesco, I think to meself, "that's where we belong." They always have the best tunes playing, I tell ya. Been there 18 times this week, it's the little things like them club cards that really do it for me. Now, don't get me wrong, Iceland puts up a good fight (left 'em a review too), but at the end of the day, Tesco always comes out on top. Me mates over at Asda are just stuck in their ways, poor blokes.

I was strolling through the dark, wind blowing about, when suddenly I got this powerful craving for baked beans. They don't know that me and the missus are into magic tricks, do they? We're just trying to make the most of our time while we're still young. One thing's for sure about Tesco- you and I, we'll both love it, no doubt about it.

Cheers,
Xxx

Big store, big range of products, tends to get crowded so best to avoid Friday afternoons and Saturdays.
Alexander Myers (11/07/2025, 17:24):
The staff at this supermarket are really friendly and helpful whenever you have a question. It's a huge and well-lit store with a wide variety of products to choose from.
Virginia Cooper (10/07/2025, 15:56):
I purchased a massive, succulent chicken. Whilst getting it ready, I discovered an abundance of feather quills still on the thighs. Quite dissatisfied, I must say.
Joe Cruz (10/07/2025, 08:41):
Not overly crowded. Simple to navigate. Minimal vacant spots on the shelves.
