Exploring Tesco Extra in Galashiels: A Comprehensive Overview

When it comes to grocery shopping, Tesco Extra in Galashiels is often at the forefront of locals' minds. With a vast selection of products and great produce, this supermarket caters to a diverse crowd, making it a popular destination for quick visits. Let’s delve into what makes this store unique and the various offerings available to shoppers.

Accessibility and Amenities

One of the highlights of Tesco Extra is its commitment to accessibility. The store features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a dedicated wheelchair-accessible car park. Additionally, the availability of a wheelchair-accessible toilet ensures that all customers can shop comfortably.

In-store amenities include a pharmacy and options for in-store shopping as well as in-store pick-up services. For those who prefer modern payment methods, Tesco supports NFC mobile payments and accepts both credit cards and debit cards.

Food Choices and Price Considerations

Shoppers at Tesco Extra will find a wide array of food items from fresh produce to household necessities. However, some customers have reported inconsistency in stock levels, particularly with staples like bananas and lettuce. While many appreciate the clubcard discounts available, others have expressed frustration at times when discounts were not honored, leading them to consider alternatives like Aldis.

The grocery section generally boasts great variety, but it's always wise to check prices on shelves, as discrepancies can occur at checkout. Shoppers should remain vigilant about pricing, as some have noted a lack of clarity on certain offers, such as two-for-one deals that aren't accurately reflected at the register.

Customer Service Experiences

Customer sentiments regarding the service provided can be mixed. Many appreciate the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to assist, while others have voiced concerns about unhelpful or rude interactions. It's crucial for the management team to prioritize staff training to enhance customer experiences consistently.

Some visitors have described feeling a sense of dread upon entering due to past negative experiences with staff, indicating that a more welcoming atmosphere is necessary. Feedback highlights the need for employees to maintain professionalism, especially during busy hours when tensions can rise.

Environmental Initiatives

Regarding sustainability, Tesco has taken steps toward recycling by encouraging customers to bring their own plastic bags or opt for paper alternatives. This initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and promote environmentally-friendly practices among shoppers.

Conclusion: A Space for Community Engagement

Despite certain challenges, Tesco Extra in Galashiels remains a vital part of the community. It serves as a hub for local events and contributes to community initiatives, ensuring that it keeps a connection with its customers. The store prides itself on being LGBTQ+ friendly, fostering an inclusive environment.

With ample amenities, diverse offerings, and a commitment to accessibility, Tesco Extra continues to be a popular choice for many residents in Galashiels. While there are areas for improvement, particularly in customer service and stock consistency, the overall experience can still be rewarding with a little planning.

The staff at the supermarket are absolutely brilliant, extremely helpful and kind. However, it's a bit disappointing to see that the shelves aren't as fully stocked as usual. Additionally, the cafe seems to be understaffed, and one can't help but wonder if this is due to a shortage of personnel or illness. It appears that the management at Tesco may need to step up their game a bit.

A St Andrew's Ceilidh was organized for the children of Galashiels Primary School and took place at Queens Leisure Centre on December 1st. More than 200 children attended the event and had a fantastic time dancing to six ceilidh tunes played live by a local accordionist. The refreshments, including water, apples, bananas, and crisps, were generously provided by Tesco and were greatly enjoyed by the children, who gave a big cheer and thanked Lorraine and Laura for their hard work in organizing it. This event has strong support from the schools, and we are truly grateful for Tesco's generous contribution. Many thanks!👍

It's like a Tesco but with a little something extra. This supermarket has a slightly wider selection, so it's pretty much like most other Tescos out there.
Mia Sanders (03/07/2025, 19:58):
The food at the supermarket was splendid, especially the vegan breakfast options which were quite delightful. The children particularly enjoyed the macaroni with hidden veggies, they devoured it eagerly. The gentleman serving us was brimming with enthusiasm and made the experience even more enjoyable.

This rather sizable Tesco store offers a wide range of products, as you would expect. However, the underground car park seems to be in need of some refurbishment, and it can attract reckless drivers, particularly in the evenings.
Allison Henderson (02/07/2025, 05:00):
I've been shopping at Tesco locations all across the country for years, but I must say that my experience at the Galashiels store was far from satisfactory. The customer service was extremely lacking, and the mobile phone manager came across as arrogant and uninformed. The security personnel, particularly John, seemed more focused on intimidating customers rather than ensuring their safety. This has pushed many people, myself included, to choose Asda as a preferred shopping destination. The staff at this branch seemed disinterested, making the overall shopping experience at Tesco in Galashiels quite disappointing. I would recommend exploring other options for your grocery needs.

The café was absolute rubbish today, no food available at 2 pm even though it was busy. I mean, come on, it's supposed to be a café restaurant! Quite disappointing, I must say.

I must say, this supermarket is rather sizable, offering a wide array of food items and other essentials.
Abigail Parker (24/06/2025, 19:26):
I was approached by a staff member who questioned why I wasn't wearing a mask, despite my visible exemption lanyard 😠...
Grace Jenkins (24/06/2025, 01:45):
Fantastic store with such friendly staff who are always willing to assist.
Susan Peterson (22/06/2025, 19:40):
I must say, the prices at this supermarket are not as budget-friendly as one might hope.
Patrick Williams (19/06/2025, 19:48):
Fairly straightforward to locate the items you're after, but they do tend to rearrange things quite often I suppose, much like many large supermarket chains.
Elizabeth Collins (19/06/2025, 12:35):
Just discovered this gem of a spot for snagging a deal every now and again. It's an absolute winner!
Russell Cook (18/06/2025, 07:53):
Massive supermarket, tons of stuff in stock - managed to get almost everything on our list, just a couple things were out of stock (probably due to a lack of delivery drivers).

The store was tidy and well-lit, we popped in on a peaceful Monday evening and most of the self-checkout registers were open.
Cheryl Hamilton (17/06/2025, 13:37):
Great selection of products, but lacking in variety. The staff could be more attentive and helpful though.
Lucy Bailey (17/06/2025, 10:19):
Wonderful spot, has all the bits and bobs you could ask for, and the chap Thomas was ever so helpful in showing me where things were located. Cheers!
Jean Reed (16/06/2025, 05:03):
It would be quite convenient if the pick & mix section were equipped with scales for customers to weigh their bags.
Aaron Sullivan (15/06/2025, 19:03):
The staff is quite friendly and they have a great variety of fresh produce available.
Timothy Morgan (13/06/2025, 09:07):
Handy store
Lovely staff
I was under the impression it was open 24/7
Turns out it's not
They shut between midnight and 6am
Not a huge issue
But 24-hour operation is more straightforward
In my opinion at least
I'll head to Asda for my late-night shopping now
Because that truly is
Open 24/7
Joe Patterson (10/06/2025, 18:34):
Great selection of groceries and items in stock. Excellent customer service from the welcoming and knowledgeable team. Convenient parking options.
